Aquastar Benthos Professional dive watch with vintage dive gauges

Geneva 1962 → Bienne now

The Swiss dive watch the people
who dive already know about.

Since 1962. The first no-decompression bezel. Worn past 100 meters on a single breath by Jacques Mayol. Issued to the Marine Nationale throughout the 1970s and into the 1980s. Still on Don Walsh’s wrist when he died.

Bienne, Switzerland. Still made the same way.

An open secret

The iconic Swiss dive watch
most collectors find their way to eventually.

For everyone else, Aquastar is still a hidden gem, a 1962 manufacture founded in Switzerland, built today in Bienne, worn at the bottom of the ocean, and quietly making the same watches it did when Jacques Mayol set his first record.

The bezel is the same one Aquastar patented in 1964 (CH 436 140). The case geometry is the same. The story takes a minute to read.

The Collection

Four families. Six decades of refinement.

Deepstar, Benthos, Model 60, Airstar. Each traces back to a specific Aquastar from the 1957 to 1970 archive, rebuilt with modern Swiss movements and the original case geometry.

A Dive Into Time

In 1964, Aquastar patented the bezel that would save divers’ lives.

The pre-dive computer didn’t exist. Decompression tables lived in laminated cards strapped to wrists or sewn into wetsuits. Mistakes weren’t corrected by an app, they ended in the bends.

The solution was mechanical: a unidirectional bezel marked with the actual decompression times for repeated dives. Filed at the Swiss patent office as CH 436 140 by Aquastar S.A. (Switzerland), inventor Marc Jasinski. Rotate, count, surface. The Marine Nationale issued it. Mayol wore it past 100 meters on his Benthos 500. Philippe Cousteau filmed in it.

Aquastar still makes it. The bezel hasn’t changed.
