The story is full of wartime secrets, the intersection of religion and politics, and the arcane world of deep technical diving. It takes readers from the smoky halls of 1940s London to the volatile, seductive heat of Sri Lanka and sixty fathoms under the Indian Ocean. Try not to hold your breath.

Jason Heaton has over a decade-long history of adventure, travel, wristwatch, and gear writing. His work has appeared in Outside magazine, Gear Patrol, Men’s Journal, The Telegraph, Wired, Australian Geographic, and Hodinkee, among others. In 2017, The New York Times called him, “a test pilot for the world’s most illustrious undersea timepieces.” He is the co-host of the popular podcast, The Grey NATO, and creator of the blog, Swimpruf. In 2021, he published his first novel, Depth Charge. His followup, Sweetwater, was published in late 2023. A certified technical diver, Heaton has been underwater all over the world, from the Galapagos to New Zealand to the Caribbean and, since 2015, he has been a member of the prestigious Explorers Club. He lives with his wife, Gishani, in Minneapolis.
