Aquastar Benthos 500 II Founder’s Edition

Aquastar unveils its most prestigious dive watch to date, built around a newly developed center-mounted 60-minute chronograph calibre exclusive to Aquastar

For over fifty years, the Aquastar Benthos chronograph has remained the paragon of capability and dive watch collectability — a rarity in watchmaking both for its unique design and functionality, and its actual rarity, as surviving examples remain scarce and highly collectable. However, since the brand’s triumphant re-launch in 2020, the modern Aquastar catalog has been without this revered, and sought-after vintage icon, but it’s not without good reason: there have been no modern center-mounted chronograph movements commercially available for watchmakers to utilize. So in collaboration with La Joux-Perret, Aquastar rebuilt this key functionality exclusively for its debut in the Benthos 500 Founder’s Edition.

Aquastar’s iconic diver returns with a limited edition in blue, a tribute to one of the world’s most quintessential dive watches from 1970 The new Benthos H1 blue Edition continues Aquastar’s earliest traditions of building innovative and ultra-capable tool watches that could cater to the needs of mariners, professional divers, and ocean conservationists. And while the original Benthos was known for its impressive depth resistance and unique center-mounted chronograph functionality, the H1 retains the marked capability and signature crown position of the Benthos but in a more streamlined and economical time-only format. The traditional  Swiss tool watchmaker is announcing its tribute to one of the world’s most iconic dive watches ever made, and a flagship in the Aquastar archive:  In winter 2024, Aquastar is introducing the Benthos Blue Edition H1 (Heritage Chapter 1) — a striking, 3-hand dive watch that retains the visual cues, capability and dimensions of the pioneering Benthos 500 from 1970, which was the world’s first dive watch achieving 500 meters of depth resistance without a monobloc case design. The mighty Benthos also enjoyed the distinction of being one of the few dive watches approved in the U.S. Navy diving manual throughout the 1970s.   TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS: - Case: Identical dimensions and aesthetics of the original Benthos 500 from 1970: 42mm 904L Stainless steel (47mm lug-to-lug), crown at 2:00 - Movement: Swiss-made Swiss Sellita SW200 Elabore grade, hours, minutes, seconds - Water resistance: 500 meters, 1500 feet - Crystal: Flat, triple-coated AR sapphire - Dial: Semi-gloss Blue, applied hour markers with high density X1 SuperLuminova filling - Bezel: Unidirectional 120 click rotating elapsed time ceramic bezel - Straps: Includes genuine 20mm ISOfrane Rubber - Limited Edition: 500 pieces worldwide - Delivery: Shipping now

Aquastar Deepstar II – Blue Ray on stainless steel BOR bracelet

$2,090.00 Tax/VAT for EU customers will be added during checkout

The Aquastar Deepstar II is the evolution of the original Deepstar from 1963, relying on the same patent of the original piece that enables calculating multiple dive and decompression times while housing a non-chronograph, easy to use 3 hand mechanism, and moderately sized 37mmX46mm for great comfort of wear.  Being a result of recreation of one of the most influential dive watches of the 60s, the unique and uncluttered mono sub dial, and the patented multiple dive decompression bezel table make the Deepstar an unmatched diver-oriented tool with an instantly recognizable design.

This model numbered and engraved on the case back..

Housed in an eminently wearable 37mm stainless steel case, the new Deepstar II retains the function-first ethos and proportions of the pioneering Deepstar Chronograph from 1962, as well as two of Aquastar’s key identifiers: the rotating timing bezel bearing the brand’s own “no decompression” table used to time repeated dives (the first and only of its kind). It also features the emblematic “cyclops” style mono-compax counter originally devised by Aquastar founder and innovator Frederic Robert. Unique to the Deepstar II, this detail now houses the running seconds register at 9:00. Like the Deepstar Chronograph, the Deepstar II bears 200 meters of water resistance, and is powered by a top-grade Swiss-made automatic movement.

Depth Charge by Jason Heaton

$14.99 Tax/VAT for EU customers will be added during checkout
Depth Charge:   Julian “Tusker” Tusk, an American archaeologist, is excavating a shipwreck half a world from home when a research boat catches fire and sinks, killing an old friend. The tragedy sets in motion a dangerous quest for truth that pulls Tusker into a sinister plot spanning 75 years, from World War II Ceylon to modern day Sri Lanka. Along the way, he matches wits with a psychopathic mercenary, discovers a long lost ship with an explosive secret, and falls for a beautiful marine biologist who is at least as strong as he is. In the end, Tusker finds that the truth may lie at the bottom of the sea, with only one way back to the surface. Depth Charge is an old school thriller in the tradition of Fleming, Maclean, and Cussler, with an eye for detail, cunning villains, and narrow escapes. The story is full of wartime secrets, the intersection of religion and politics, and the arcane world of deep technical diving. It takes readers from the smoky halls of 1940s London to the volatile, seductive heat of Sri Lanka and sixty fathoms under the Indian Ocean. Try not to hold your breath.   Tusker and his Aquastar Benthos 500: Tusker wears his father’s old Aquastar Benthos 500 in his adventures   About the Author:   Jason Heaton has over a decade-long history of adventure, travel, wristwatch, and gear writing. His work has appeared in Outside magazine, Gear Patrol, Men’s Journal, The Telegraph, Wired, Australian Geographic, and Hodinkee, among others. In 2017, The New York Times called him, “a test pilot for the world’s most illustrious undersea timepieces.” He is the co-host of the popular podcast, The Grey NATO, and creator of the blog, Swimpruf. In 2021, he published his first novel, Depth Charge. His followup, Sweetwater, was published in late 2023. A certified technical diver, Heaton has been underwater all over the world, from the Galapagos to New Zealand to the Caribbean and, since 2015, he has been a member of the prestigious Explorers Club. He lives with his wife, Gishani, in Minneapolis.
