The Aquastar Airstar Chronograph 60th Anniversary Re-Edition is a Swiss automatic chronograph with slide-rule aviation bezel, sapphire crystal and 200 m water resistance.
While the AIRSTAR was a departure from the traditional tool dive watch that Aquastar has became famous for among divers and aquanauts like Jacques Mayol and Phillipe Cousteau, it still featured a depth rating of 200 meter, a screw down crown and many attributes essential for serious water resistance.
This model is limited to 300 pieces per year, it is numbered and engraved on the case back..

While the 316L stainless steel case of the new Airstar retains the signature Skin diver case shape of the original from 1964 it now offers more durability and black elegant aesthetics. The new Airstar is built around the industry workhorse calibre from Valjoux, the 7753, this calibre offers outstanding reliability and great after-market serviceability.

The all DLC Aquastar airstar have been my go to watch for any water activity! The DLC is very robust coating as it can be. How does the Stainless Steel Airstar differ from the DLC version?
The Stainless Steel Airstar shares the same movement (Valjoux 7753), same water resistance, same chronograph functions, and the same 1964-inspired skin diver case shape as the DLC model. The sole difference is the finish: instead of the stealthy black DLC coating, this version shows the natural brushed and polished 316L stainless steel, a more traditional and vintage-appropriate aesthetic that better matches the spirit of the original 1964 watch.
Which Airstar is more collectible, DLC or Stainless Steel?
Both have strong appeal to different collectors. The stainless-steel version is arguably more historically authentic to the 1964 original, while the DLC version is more modern and durable. The stainless-steel version also ages more gracefully, developing micro-brushing and patina over time that many collectors prize.
How often does the Airstar need servicing, and what does it cost?
A full service every 5 to 10 years is plenty, depending on how often you wear and dive it. There is no annual service requirement. It runs a Swiss automatic movement built for reliability and easy long-term maintenance. For a current service quote, reach us through the Aquastar service page.
How water resistant is the Airstar?
It is rated to 200 metres (20 ATM) with a screw-down crown, so it is a genuine dive watch, not a desk diver. Ample for recreational scuba diving, snorkelling, swimming and everyday wear.
What does the Airstar bezel do?
The Airstar uses a slide-rule (tachymeter) bezel rather than a dive-timing bezel, true to its 1964 dual-purpose aviation and diving role. It lets you work out speed, distance and elapsed time by hand, and pairs with a screw-down crown and 200 metre case for real water resistance.
Is the 39mm Airstar comfortable on a smaller wrist?
Yes. At 39mm with a compact lug-to-lug span, it wears true to its vintage-correct proportions, comfortable on slimmer wrists while still reading as a purposeful tool watch. A versatile size that works on most wrists.
