Aquastar Deepstar III Chronograph (Manual Wind)
The Aquastar Deepstar III Manual Wind is a column-wheel hand-wound dive chronograph with no-decompression bezel, sapphire crystal and 200 m water resistance.
The Aquastar Deepstar III represents a bold step forward by looking back to the brand’s roots. After years of utilizing automatic movements in the modern Deepstar chronographs, Aquastar has partnered with La Joux-Perret to create an exclusive manual wind column wheel chronograph movement that honors the spirit of the original 1960s Deepstar and its legendary Valjoux 23 caliber.

Fine Aquastar watch. Very nice. Like the original. Perhaps a little bit too big for me. But thanks. The second generation would be better for me.
My Aquastar is a star in my watch collection. I always wear it with great pride of ownership and would never sell it. A beautiful watch with a fantastic movement and a wonderful history—something for the connoisseur.
Great piece (manual wind) love the way it runs and how it works.
Purchased my Deepstar II in the initial launch and couldn’t be happier. The size is perfect and wears very substantially for a 37mm, the beads of rice bracelet is high quality, and the deep gray sunburst dial is incredible. The bonus - the script font is distinctive and pure class!
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with the Aquastar Deepstar 2020 Steel Grey. The striking steel grey dial and unique vintage styling really stand out, making it a true highlight of my watch collection. The build quality and craftsmanship are absolutely superb, and the entire experience with the Aquastar team has been excellent.
Excellent watch and historically significant model. I love the size, vintage look and feel of the watch. It has held up very well over several years of regular wear. I have scuba dived with it at recreational depths with no issues. Highly recommend this model!
It was a no brainer decision as soon as the launch was made in 2020. Till date, it remains one of my favorite watches in my collection. Aquastar did an exceptional job recreating the spirit and proportions of the original Deepstar while delivering modern presence and build quality. I love its character. It has a good wrist presence without feeling oversized, and the design is packed with vintage charm and purpose. The dial, bezel, and overall execution capture the essence of a true adventure dive watch. So happy to own this watch !
I bought the first Deepstar when it was re-introduced a number of years ago. It is really a fun watch and every time I have it on it gets a lot of attention. This one will stay in my permanent collection for sure.
Aquastar Deepstar is an historic and marvelous Watch, The first Diver Chrono…. Una maravilla de pieza histórica. My Aquastar is the 2020 grey, received on 2021, years waiting the relaunch of this grial watch for me, great, unique. Thanks
Aquastar Deepstar is an historic and marvelous Watch, The first Diver Chrono…. Una maravilla de pieza histórica.
Excellent and faithful recreation of the original first diving computer tool watch worn by Jacques Cousteau and his crew aboard the Calypso. Wears well on the wrist as a piece of living history with the Swiss made chronograph movement including "keep alive" indicator, letting you know the watch is running. I even won a costume contest with this watch.
My Greenwich has been one of my most worn watches. Super legible, and the fact I can time 2 items at the same time with bezel and Chronograph is awesome. I've had a lot of comments as the dial really pops on a sunny day! Would recommend
Questions
Before you order.
What is the Deepstar III?
The Deepstar III is Aquastar's latest and most historically faithful version of the Deepstar. It replaces the automatic chronograph movement of the standard Deepstar Chronograph with a hand-wound (manual-wind) column-wheel chronograph caliber, deliberately evoking the Valjoux 23 hand-wound movement that powered the original 1965 Deepstar.
Why choose a manual-wind movement over automatic?
Manual winding is a deliberate connection to tradition. The vintage 1965 Deepstar was powered by a hand-wound Valjoux caliber, and the ritual of winding the watch each morning connects the modern wearer to that heritage. Manual movements are also typically thinner and mechanically simpler, which many purists prefer.
What makes the Deepstar III different from the standard Deepstar Chronograph?
The core functionality is identical, same case dimensions, same patented decompression bezel, same mono sub-dial layout. The key difference is the movement: the Deepstar III uses a manual-wind column-wheel chronograph caliber rather than an automatic rotor-based movement. The case height is slightly taller in the automatic version at 14mm to accommodate the caliber.
Is the Deepstar III available now?
The Deepstar III is available for pre-order, with shipping planned imminently. It comes in the same three dial colors as the automatic Deepstar: Blue Ray, Steel Grey, and Vintage Black.
How often does the Deepstar III need servicing, and what does it cost?
A full service every 5 to 10 years is plenty, depending on how often you wear and dive it. There is no annual service requirement. It runs a Swiss hand-wound movement built for reliability and easy long-term maintenance. For a current service quote, reach us through the Aquastar service page.
How water resistant is the Deepstar III?
It is rated to 200 metres (20 ATM) with a screw-down crown, so it is a genuine dive watch, not a desk diver. Ample for recreational scuba diving, snorkelling, swimming and everyday wear.
How does the bezel work, and can I use it underwater with gloves?
It carries Aquastar's no-decompression bezel, the first and only dive bezel that lets you plan and track repetitive no-decompression dives directly from the wrist, not just a single descent. It turns firmly and grips cleanly even with thick neoprene diving gloves, in or out of the water.
Is the 39mm Deepstar III comfortable on a smaller wrist?
Yes. At 39mm with a compact lug-to-lug span, it wears true to its vintage-correct proportions, comfortable on slimmer wrists while still reading as a purposeful tool watch. A versatile size that works on most wrists.
